We study the effect of global-symmetry violating higher-dimension operators induced by Planck-scale physics on the properties of WIMP dark matter. Using an effective description, we show that the lifetime of the WIMP dark matter candidate can satisfy cosmological bounds under reasonable assumptions regarding the strength of the dimension-five operators. On the other hand, the indirect WIMP dark matter detection signal is significantly enhanced due to new decay channels.

Effects of cold dark matter decoupling and pair annihilation on cosmological perturbations
Weakly interacting massive particles are part of the lepton-photon plasma in the early universe until kinetic decoupling, after which time the particles behave like a collisionless gas with nonzero temperature. The Boltzmann equation for WIMP-lepton collisions is reduced to a Fokker-Planck equation for the evolution of the WIMP distribution including scalar density perturbations. This equation ...
متن کاملEffects of Halo Triaxiality, Anisotropy and Small Scale Clumping on Wimp Direct Detection Exclusion Limits
Weakly Interacting Massive Particle (WIMP) direct detection experiments are closing in on the region of parameter space where neutralinos may constitute the Galactic halo dark matter. Numerical simulations and observations of galaxy halos indicate that the standard Maxwellian halo model is likely to be a poor approximation to the dark matter distribution. We examine how halo models with triaxia...
متن کاملIs Dark Matter Heavy Because of Electroweak Symmetry Breaking? Revisiting Heavy Neutrinos
A simple and well-motivated explanation for the origin of dark matter is that it consists of thermal relic particles that get their mass entirely through electroweak symmetry breaking. The simplest models implementing this possibility predict a dark matter candidate that consists of a mixture of two Dirac neutrinos with opposite isospin, and so has suppressed coupling to the Z. These models pre...
متن کاملModels of Dark Matter and the INTEGRAL 511 keV line
Two models of dark matter are examined in the context of the bright 511 keV gamma-ray signal observed from the center of the galaxy by the INTEGRAL satellite. A model of annihilating MeV-scale dark matter has been shown by Boehm et al. to be able to provide the required flux of positrons to explain the INTEGRAL signal, and the possible experimental consequences of this model are investigated in...
متن کاملGalactic substructure and direct detection of dark matter
We study the effects of substructure in the Galactic halo on direct detection of dark matter, on searches for energetic neutrinos from weakly interacting massive particles (WIMP) annihilation in the Sun and Earth, and on the enhancement in the WIMP annihilation rate in the halo. Our central result is a probability distribution function (PDF) Pð Þ for the local dark-matter density. This distribu...
